Clearly Cancer is a son of a bitch. I had a talk with him way back about getting off your case, but that bastard never listens to anyone. I hope your doctors are skilled at kicking his ass back to the stone again. Think about you often and will have extra-double-thinking going on until I hear you're better.

I fully intend to try rice again, mostly for the same reason I keep trying to grow corn each year: it's fun, and challenging (and who doesn't need to challenge themselves every now and again). I really do think the trick around here is going to be keeping the water level in check but also keep it circulating in some fashion. I killed a mosquito on my leg this afternoon that was as big as my palm, and wasn't even surprised about it given the amount of rain we've had around here and the amount of water that's pooled up around the property.

I will see you, Aunt Sues, at the hospital, yes. I know you're going to sneak off when they whisk me out for surgery to go see your brand new grandbaby! But hopefully when you come back to see me in recovery, I won't be so doped up that I won't realize you're there.

It must interesting to experiment with rice. Even serious rice growers do have problem occasionally with too much rain or too dry..... Of course we get better each time. Happy Gardening, ~bangchik
